Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard handed over the jerseys, which the team proudly wore during their 4 0 win against Fulham at Anfield, to army reserves Lance Corporal Jimmy Parsons and Private Jamie McLaughlin at Melwood.
Jimmy and Jamie both carried a large poppy onto the pitch at Anfield to mark the one minute silence during the remembrance weekend fixture.
All 22 shirts, which feature a printed poppy and players’ autographs, are now available to bid for on ebay and 100 per cent of all monies raised will go towards providing essential care and support to serving members of the Armed Forces, veterans of all ages and their families.
Steven Gerrard said: “It was an honour for the team to wear the poppy proudly on our home shirts and donate them to the Royal British Legion to raise valuable funds.
“We’d like to thank those who serve in the armed forces for the amazing work they do. They’re are the real heroes, going out to serve our country and it doesn’t go unnoticed everyone is really appreciative of what they do.”
## ## Bill Martin, County Secretary from the Merseyside and West Lancashire Royal British Legion said: “This year is the fifth year in a row that Liverpool Football Club have supported us with the Poppy Appeal. Their backing is so important to us and enables us to raise funds which are vital to support the work that we deliver to serving members of the Armed Forces and ex personnel across the Merseyside region and beyond.
“Last year the shirts donated from the Remembrance Sunday fixture against Chelsea raised 21,000 for the Poppy Appeal. It would be absolutely fantastic if we can achieve this figure again or even better beat it.”
Lance Corporal Jimmy Parsons added: “It was brilliant to meet Steven and accept the poppy shirts on behalf of the Royal British Legion. I am a huge Liverpool fan so this whole experience has been fantastic.
